Members of the youth-led civic group Buganda Yiyo Buganda Yange have donated electrical installation materials to Pookino Nursery School in Kamugombwa, Buddu County, in an effort to improve learning conditions through access to electricity.
The donation was officially handed over to the Third Deputy Pookino, Dick Muwanga, who oversees schools in the county.
The materials will enable the installation of electricity in the school buildings, improving lighting, safety and the overall learning environment for young learners.
The Head of Buddu County, Pookino Jude Muleke, commended the youth for their initiative and urged them to remain committed to sustainable and income-generating activities.
He cautioned against the tendency by some young people to abandon projects that do not produce immediate financial returns, stressing that meaningful development requires patience and consistency.
Muleke also encouraged youth to take part in the electoral process and make informed decisions by supporting leaders capable of addressing youth challenges and improving livelihoods.
Muwanga praised Buganda Yiyo Buganda Yange for its innovative mobilisation approaches, particularly the use of digital platforms to rally support, safeguard the institution of the monarchy and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Buganda Kingdom.
The organisation’s chairperson, Munaawa Dan, said that while the Kabaka provided schools for his people, it is the responsibility of citizens, especially the youth, to maintain and develop them.
He said the group has chosen to add value to education by contributing resources that directly support learning and pledged that similar initiatives will be rolled out in schools across all Buganda counties.
Treasurer Omumbejja Dorothy Nattu said the donation is part of the organisation’s broader mission to improve education standards throughout the Kingdom.
She noted that access to electricity is increasingly critical for effective teaching and learning, particularly as schools prepare to resume.
Nursery schools across the country are expected to reopen in February for the first term of the academic year, making the intervention timely for Pookino Nursery School.
